Masaki Aofuji (青藤・マサキ?, Aofuji Masaki) is the protagonist in the fifth season, FLCL: Shoegaze. He is a high school student who can see ghosts all around him.
Profile[]
10 years prior to the main story, a 5 year old Masaki witnessed a large cloud of smoke being released into the sky, before an iron shaped building began moving across the town. Later that night, he began to see a ghost in the living room and tried to tell his mother about it, but she did not believe him. As he got older, he would continue seeing more of these ghosts and tell everyone around him, but no one would believe him, causing him to develop a lone wolf personality.
At some point, his parents eventually had him transfer to Tsuganei High School. Upon his arrival in Tsuganei, he noticed a tower with a glowing pink bird on it, believing that he is still seeing ghosts. He eventually meets a girl on the school's rooftop named Harumi Araishu who reveals that they are in the same class and becomes interested in his sketches of ghosts. Sometime later, he was planning to create a bomb to destroy the tower with chemicals from the science lab. Although Harumi catches him in the act, she decides to help him with making it, by suggesting that they go on a "date" to a local home improvement store, and shoplift the other items needed to make a bomb.
Personality[]
He is an introvert and social outcast, with Harumi being the only person willing to befriend him. His more reserved personality sometimes clashes with Harumi's more energetic and eccentric personality. Despite their different personalities, they both view each other as kindred spirits, both being introverts who despise the tower. He also becomes easily flustered around her after unintentionally seeing her panties and belly button. Bureau of Interstellar Immigration Chief Kanda noted while looking at Masaki's school records that he believed the teenager was simply a victim who was taken advantage of by Harumi.
Appearance[]
He has messy black hair and blueish-grey eyes. He is shown wearing a Gakuran style uniform from his previous high school, consisting of a matching black standing collar jacket and pants.
After the merger is interrupted and Harumi disappears, he is shown wearing the Tsuganei High School uniform, consisting of a khaki colored blazer with a "T" patch over the breast pocket, white dress shirt, green tie, and tan slacks.
