Man Motoyama (本山・満?, Motoyama Man), or Mossan (モッサン) to her friends, is Kana's hard-working, determined best friend.

Profile[]

Mossan is a 17 year old girl who dreams of becoming a fashion designer, though her family struggles financially to pay for a design school after graduation. In her free time, she takes up a part time job, working as a safety guide at a construction site. She eventually tries to enter a fashion contest in order to get her work noticed. She is often seen eating food.

Personality[]

She is shown to be a hardworking girl, though also somewhat stubborn. She works to the point where she is overworked and is forced to rest in bed for awhile. When her friends try to help her by filling in for her at the construction site, she becomes upset with them and resist their help, believing that it is her dream alone and that she must do it without the other girls interfering. She eventually relents and has Kana help her balance between work, designing and taking care of herself. She tends to overeat due to her working.

Appearance[]

Mossan is a plump girl with a round blush on her cheeks and a pink bottom lip. She has brown eyes and thin, upward-arching brown eyebrows. Her mid-length brown hair is usually worn up in buns or pigtails, and she frequently dyes sections of her hair, such as blonde bangs or pink pigtails. She usually wears the school uniform of a blue vest with red and white border stripes over a long-sleeved white shirt, a red tie tucked beneath her vest, a dark blue skirt, and white socks and shoes. Her hair is usually held up in pink scrunchies or ties and she dons blue hoop earrings occasionally. Outside of school, her inner fashion designer expresses itself through stylish dresses and matching accessories when necessary.

In the second episode of FLCL: Shoegaze, an image of her at 20 years old is briefly shown. She is shown with her hair dyed in multiple colors. Later, Kana briefly imagines Mossan wearing a yellow kimono and her hair back to its normal color, after finding out that neither her nor Hijiri could join her for the "Coming of Age" ceremony.
