Here's how I think FLCL: Progressive and FLCL: Alternative should've been made

FLCL: Progressive – Set several years after FLCL: Classic in which we see Naota getting ready to graduate high school, just when he thinks he has his life figured out here comes Haruko who is still on her crusade to get Atomsk because Naota was the closest she ever came to him.

FLCL: Alternative – This story goes back several years before the events of FLCL: Classic in which we see the story of how Amarao met Haruko for the first time and how she affected him throughout the years.

And that's how I'd handle Progressive and Alternative, thank you for your time

I personally only like FLCL, Alternative, and Shoegaze. I think Alternative and Showcase are designed to be prequels to the original series (including Grunge).

Alternative - Haruko doesn't mention Atomsk so perhaps she doesn't know who Atomsk is just yet and she gets her iconic yellow Vespa from stealing it from the soba shop owner.

Shoegaze - Takes place 10 years after Alternative and reveals the origin of Atomsk (I think).

That said in Alternative and Shoegaze (Progressive is 100% confirmed to be a sequel) there are smart phones, flat screen televisions, and other more modern concepts that didn't exist in the original FLCL plus footage of the original series is shown in both Alternative and Shoegaze so maybe Alternative is a sequel. Honestly you can interpret it both ways.

Just finished the rest of FLCL; so glad there are no more spoilers for me. New to this fandom and show! I mainly loved the first FLCL. FLCL Progressive was really great too. FLCL was good as well, but it kinda felt like it strayed off a bit from the original media and got a little confusing at times, otherwise really good.

I hope FLCL: Grunge and FLCL: Shoegaze clear up everything unanswered.
